My 2D project. Blending color scales into a fantastical background. First time I'd used gouache paint...takes a little getting used to. Afterward: figure drawing, philosophy and environmental issues.

I went to the public library and discovered that the co-author of a series of really awesome mysteries did some work of his own. This one was about an oil rig that hits something buried in the ocean that could change the world. Believeable and intense!

First family skype session ever. SO...funny story of the day. Saturday night after work (2am) I went to my parents' house to spend the night since it's closer to church than my place. I had left a message to keep the door unlocked, but when I got there after work, it was locked. I went back to the car in the garage when I heard what turned out to be my dad at the front door, but when I went back he was gone and the door remained locked. I didn't want to go back home, so I decided to brave the cold and sleep in the car in the garage. I had attempted the same last summer, but I guess I didn't learn my lesson. Two hours of freezing discomfort later I gave up and drove home, and ended up sleeping in and missing church entirely. The best part of it all: I unknowingly had the key to my parents' house in my pocket the entire time.

[google images] My roommate bought the Avatar extended edition the other day. I had forgotten how amazing it is! And I found out that it's being made into a trilogy, so I have another series to look forward to after the Hobbit!

Would have gone bowling with a group from church, but had to work at the Union at the same time. Easter bunny cookies. Barbeque sauce in pocket.

After another 12 hour day on campus, I almost blinded my driver with this accidental shot. As you might infer from this post, we did not die.

Beautiful sunset this evening. I was disappointed by the quality of the picture on the camera (no sunset setting!) but on the computer it looks really nice! Today I went to the rec for the first time in a few years...my arms will probably feel like lead tomorrow

Today was the first time I stayed on campus for the whole day (8:30am to 9:00pm). Public Speaking, figure drawing, 2D design, and an SEA meeting. I don't see how people who have even busier schedules every single day survive...

The only person in our household that can cook a decent meal. I attempted to make some apple crisp while he was conjuring up some beans and rice.

Talked to my little sis on skype for the first time! She gave me a tour of her crib, then went to a "dating Q&A session", which was basically a comedy for freshman girls. craazy.

Went running/exploring around a frozen creek off the beaten path. There's something really fascinating about ice. Despite the bitter cold, we spent a good amount of time trying to break through the solidified H2O. Good times.

My roommate invited a friend from out of town to go to a techno rave with him, and tonight they tried to get me to come with them. They were very convincing...I actually started wanting to go, but gave up after my invite fell through. Oh well...

The adventures of figure drawing! The class is actually a lot of fun, and should be really useful. The teacher has a good sense of humor and an effective instructor, though some of her antics reminded me of Professor Slughorn.

The room I have my art history class in was remodeled to accomodate quadruple the amount of screens, making it 70% cooler looking, but 50% less practical. Still looks cool though!

The 6 hour work shift after that reminded me of prison. Or at least what I've seen of it from the Shawshank Redemption.

Today was the first day of classes! Despite the basic classes I'm taking, my schedule is a little intimidating, but I'll try to make it as fun as possible, of course.

Tonight I was in my room when I heard the fire alarm go off downstairs. I didn't think anything of it, but later found out that my roommate had started a fire in the trash can in his room, which led to several charred spots appearing on the carpet. It could have been worse...

I think I might start writing more in these posts just because it'll probably(?) be interesting to look back on what I was thinking, not just what I did. Yes. Today I attended a funeral and ate dinner with an awesome Korean family.

The phone that is currently in my possession is the bane of my cellular existence! I ran out of airtime today, and had already paid for more minutes (and a new plan) but didn't get it on my phone, causing me to call net10's dreaded tech support. After making me type about 50 numbers into my phone I was told I'd need to buy more minutes cuz I'd used the old ones (which I never got) up already. I figured arguing wouldn't change anything, so I tried to hang up, but was calling from my roommates' smartphone, which randomly froze and no matter what I did I couldn't end the call! The guy on the other side was like "sir, I'm not authorized to end this conversation; you have to do that". So I had to get my roommate out of the shower, and he didn't know what was wrong with it and ended up just ripping the battery out, with the guy listening to us the whole time. It was pretty hilarious. I called later that day and a more cooperative agent answered, and about half an hour later I had double the minutes I had intended on getting on my phone. I'm not even going to ask about the reasoning behind all of this.

Yet another day of sitting around. Those may look like drugs, but they're really Vitamin C/multivitamin tablets. I hate being sick. And I thought it would be impossible to catch 2 colds in a row. Now I know better...

 It's the middle of winter, but my dad recruited me to rake up some leaves from trash bags he found at the landfill. I wish it would snow.

This is the kid I teach math to, as of New Year's Eve. He can do long division at incredible speeds. Relearning algebra and geometry is actually kind of fun though, at least when you know what you're doing!

This is what the inside of a pomegranate looks like. I got sick for the second time this break, so I stayed at my parents house and did a lot of reading and thinking. And listening.

Today was a pretty lazy day. My roommate spent an unholy amount of time attempting to accomplish some very difficult achievements in starcraft. That takes some serious determination and patience.

Had some wonderful friends over for lunch! The yakisoba didn't turn out so well, but it was good times anyway.

Souveneirs from Okinawa! A friend spent the holidays over there and showed us all the pictures she took there. I'd really like to go there some day. Not sure if I'd be able to understand their Japanese though...

A panoramic shot I took on the walk back from work at the union. Panoramas are soo cool! Today there was a retirement reception/party thing for a fellow who worked at the union for a whopping 45 years! They calculated he serviced rooms with pitchers of water tens of thousands of times and gave him a golden pitcher as a present. I also watched Toy Story 3 with my parents :) Great movie!

I forgot to take a picture today until right before midnight, so this is a slightly creepy picture of myself, using the "poster effect". I went running for the first time in weeks with a couple friends, but it was really cold and I was still recovering from a never ending cold. We didn't have a goal in mind, so one guy hijacked the workout and it was madness.

My roommate's printer started malfunctioning, so we decided to systematically disassemble it. I felt kind of bad for rendering it completely useless, but it wasn't going to be of any use anyway, and we got something good out of it: an entertaining (?) video!

Somebody gave me the idea to take a picture a day every day for a year. Having just got a new camera, I thought it would be an excellent idea. A nice way to be able to look back and see what I did on any given day. I used to write in a journal, but I have the flaw of wanting to put every single little detail of each day into every entry, so it became too time consuming to continue. With this, I might miss some of the highlights of the year, but as long as I get something of a flavor for my everyday life, I'll be happy. Happy 2012!

My sister packing up on her last day in Manhattan before going back to school. It was interesting to catch up over winter break and see how much she's changed in her first semester of college.
